Dressed or Undressed??

Posted in Create, Home & Living, Home Hints on September 3rd, 2010 by HS

Hollywood Glamour in Brisbane??? WHY NOT?? and doesn't it look simply fabulous daarrling !!!!

When on the hunt for a new home or apartment  it's great to see them complete with furniture.

Why???

  • Spacial  awareness – gives you a better understanding of size
  • Seeing furniture in the potenital abode can indicate a standard comfort standard – will you have enough space to stretch out and relax once all of your loved furniture is in there?-*  Will you be able to walk thru and around in a area without bumping, kicking or knocking yourself about??
  • Gives you a different perspective on how to arrange your furniture once you move in, you may love how it set up or you may not but it's one aspect that you have already seen

Above is the UNDRESSED room : this area is 6.1m x 3.9m and it's not particularly inspiring and looks very bland. Don't get me wrong I love white but  i simply fell in love with the dressed version.  What about you, what do you think???

Below DRESSED: and what a difference it makes.

This unit at East Brisbane was home staged by Castle Hire @ Stafford
Home Staging is extremely popular and more common place as a standard process when a home gets put onto the real estate market. Due to many popular television shows like Hot Property,  The Block, Better Homes and Gardens and many real estate agents highly recommend it.

The Right Twist

Posted in Home & Living, Home Hints, kitchen on September 1st, 2010 by HS

This is so simple and logical that I almost feel ridiculous for posting this tip BUT  I didn't know this so I figure that maybe there are others who didn't know that there is a correct way to grind *Salt and Pepper mills

When dispensing your Salt or Pepper  from a grinder, it is best to twist the grinder in one direction, and this for most grinders is generally clockwise.

Why?? from my research ( yes research) I discovered that by twisting in a clockwise direction it allows the chamber of the grinder to be filled correctly before the grinding process takes place and avoids the risks of clogging.

Also avoid milling / grinding directly over your dish whilst it is cooking as the steam can dampen the salt and/or pepper and this can lead to clogging of the mechanisms of your Grinders

Happy grinding folks and if you have any tips you think are worth sharing, let us know

Chosen View – A Bygone Era

Posted in Brisbane, Place of Interest on August 5th, 2010 by HS

Tuesday I finally got into  the city to visit the  Museum of Brisbane  where they're showcasing a wonderful collection of Glass Slide images of daily life and activities taken by Alfred Henry Elliot, a Brisbane resident and photograher. The collection is called Chosen View.  The glass slides were discovered in 1983 under a house in Red HIll neatly packed in cigar boxes.

There were some images of  the voting / polling booths back in 1899.  Considering are elections are the hot topic of the day I thought it very appropriate to put this image first.

Some of  Brisbane's more well known landmarks

And just a little closer to home, the Enoggera Reservoir

There are so many more images to view, but I don't want to spoil it by showing them all to you, it's definitely worth the visit into the Museum of Brisbane at 157 Ann Street, open Monday – Friday, 10.00 am – 5pm
