Keep Calm in the Kitchen

Posted in Create, Home & Living, Home Accessories, kitchen on December 8th, 2011 by Monette

I thought I would share the latest edition to my kitchen.

A thin metal wall plaque – approx 80cm H x 25cm W and presumably to stand upright but I thought I’d go a different angle and place it horizontally on the ledge over the range hood.  As you can see the range hood serves as a shelf for knick knacks too &  is topped with some Christmas cheer at this time of year.

Wreck This Journal

Posted in Babies & Kids, Books, Create, Gift on September 20th, 2011 by Linda

I remember having it drummed into me from a very early age to ‘respect books’, ‘treat them with care’ and ‘Look after them’.  I, of course handed this advice down to my sons and thought all was good with the world.  One day when my son was sick I bought him ‘Wreck This Journal’ by Keri Smith, starting it tested both our resolves.  I didn’t realise how hard it was to go against all we had been taught and wreck a book, purposefully and totally. He loves it and has had such great fun, I want one now.

For this blog I looked up how the publishers described this book:

the anarchist’s Artist’s Way — the book for those who’ve always wanted to draw outside the lines but were afraid to do it.

For anyone who’s ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book featuring a subversive collection of suggestions, asking readers to muster up their best mistake – and mess-making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them).

Through a series of creatively and quirkily illustrated prompts, acclaimed artist Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in ‘destructive’ acts – poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, colouring outside the lines, and more – in order to experience the true creative process.  With Keri Smith’s unique sensibility, readers are introduced to a new way of art and journal making, discovering novel ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.

A SAVVY way to SPLOSH

Posted in Create, Gift, Home & Living, Home Accessories on September 14th, 2011 by HS

Make a Statement

Spruce it up!

Use these sleek white letters with some creative wrapping paper or even a simple bow/ribbon to give them your own personal touch.

Paste, paste, paste!

Use some material flowers or a collection of odd buttons and glue them in different positions to create a quirky and fun look.

If you want something more elaborate use a pencil to carefully sketch vines and leaves that extend from the flowers. Once you are happy with the design, use a thin permanent marker to go over the pattern.

Love your letter!

Use the Splosh letters to spell out the name of someone special to you. Then in your own handwriting, write on the letters everything you love about the person.

Over the top!

(Give yourself no limits)

colour it      tie it

stamp it      sticker it

mix it          spray it

match it     dye it

wrap it

Stand them up!

Each of the individual Splosh letters has a flat base allowing them to stand. Pop them on a bookshelf, bench top, or table to add your own creative touch to any room in the house – without the hassle of hooks, screws and nails.

Hang them up!

If standing them just won’t do, the letters have also been designed to be hung on any wall in your house.
